Facebook Application: Design

Before decided on what kind of application I was going to attempt to make, I decided to check out what I was up against. So I delved into the Facebook tutorials and tools and came out with my head spinning. I won’t lie, I had expected it would be easier given how simple most things on Facebook seem, but there was a lot of things I wanted to do, but so many coding languages I needed to learn to do them.

Since time wasn’t on my side that heavily, I opted for one of the Facebook Application Maker tools. This seemed like a good move as it was basically a bunch of templates that you could edit yourself and make whatever you wanted within the limitations of the tool, which was still quite a lot of legroom.

These tools, made by other Facebook developer/users give you many options of what kind of application you want to make. Most things you see friends exchanging or playing with one another can be made with, or to some degree at least, with one of these templates. Anything from things you exchange (gifts, pokes, etc) with friends, to games you play (war games, puzzles games, etc) together. These then get automatically added to your profile and you can invite anyone you like to use your application, play your game, or use whatever else you’ve made.

My original wish was to make a non-modern themed war game, before I my dreams were shot down anyway. Luckily, this toolset had the options needed to design such a thing. Though not the little game full of fancy graphics, options and all the other bells and whistles I was hoping for, it seemed like it could turn out quite well if I put some effort into learning the ropes.

And so, I began to plan my development.
